Scottsdale Police Cyber Bully Guidelines

Direct from the trusted Scottsdale police. In the unfortunate case that your child becomes victim to cyber bully attacks, follow these guidelines:

  • Do not respond to the bully. Responding to the bully will escalate the problem.
  • Use the block feature found in email, chat rooms or instant messaging sites. Most sites allow users to block specific screen names or email addresses. For SNS (social networking sites), you may need to delete the current account and open a new account that limits access to trusted friends.
  • Do not erase or delete evidence such as emails or text messages.
  • Contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider), the SNS (social networking site) or cell phone company and file a complaint. Many Internet sites, Internet providers and other forms of digital media have a code of conduct policy or other guidelines prohibiting abusive/profane language or conduct.
  • Contact the child’s /teen’s school if it is school related. Find out if the school has a policy on cyberbullying and what can be done.
  • Contact local law enforcement if you or the child/teen has been threatened or a crime has been committed.

This Scottsdale locksmith thought it a good idea to post these guidelines from Scottsdale  police to help parents protect their kids. Too bad, as I don’t believe as yet, cyber bullying –cyber bullying–the act itself– isn’t on the books as a stand alone crime.
