Checking in on New Year Resolutions

Well , it’s about six months since your  New Year resolution Chandler, Scottsdale, Mesa and Phoenix Valley business owners. How have those resolutions worked for you?  As so many business owners look for ways to skinny down the budget, good advice as we are still in this recession is…don’t skimp on your security budget!

This locksmith knows that crime is alive and well in Scottsdale, Chandler , Mesa , Tempe  and elsewhere in the Phoenix valley.

True Story:  Early last year one of our locksmith Scottsdale business clients was setting up a new location.  And he called us out there to re-key the property .  As with all of ASAP Lock & Security Scottsdale service calls, we surveyed the site.

We found that our Scottsdale locksmith customer was very vulnerable to common criminal attack at the rear of his property.  We also suggested a new safe since his was a Costco special.  Please folks, don’t buy cheapo safes from Costco and Wal-mart.  Don’t get me wrong.  I shop at both places for food and dry goods.  However, those stores are a very poor choice to shop for asset protection.

Anyway, back to the story of our Scottsdale client. I strongly suggested for him to let us better secure his back door and sell him a new safe.  He thanked us, but…there were so many other updates and expenses he wanted to attend to. I’ll save some money now and thanks, but he passed on my security advice.

A little less than three months later…he called ASAP Lock & Security and said “Laura, I should have listened to your advice. We were broken into last night (at the door you suggested we improve) and they pried our safe open and took cash.  Alarms went off, but by the time the police got there…we were robbed.  Please secure the premises as you suggested and we’d like to buy a new safe today.”

Now readers, as a professional locksmith in Scottsdale, and more importantly, as an ethical and moral person; I am not happy when bad things happen to good people.   The suggestions I make for lock and security improvements are for your protection and to avoid situations like this one.   I like to retain clients because I’ve helped them stay protected.  Locksmith referrals are very strong for ASAP Lock & security and I know it’s cliché, but referrals ARE our biggest compliment.

Think about it. People are stressed.  Have you noticed?  Remember that disgruntled employee you let go last month?  Does he still have your key?  At ASAP Lock & Security, know that our prices are reasonable and we will help you set up a better way of tracking security issues so that they become non-issues.

So back to the New Year  advice…Please, in 2010, if your New Year’s resolution is to tighten your belt on spending,  please do not  skinny down on the security budget, just skip the donuts in the break room.

Best Wishes for a prosperous New Year to all of our Phoenix Valley Business Owners.

Chandler Drug Store is Robbed

Perscription drugs were stolen from a Chandler Walgreen’s store in Chandler at approximately 8:45pm.   There were threats, but no weapon was seen on the man, but the pharmacy techs gave up the drugs anyway and the “suspect”  don’t you just love it when we police have to say “suspect” fled with the drugs.  I mean…”suspect” here, I’ll say it,uh cause I can, aahh hem after the “criminal”  took off with the stolen drugs, he fled in a Sedan that no one got a good look at.  Jeeze. The “suspect” was described as a “light skin Hispanic or white male, 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall, medium build in his late teens to early twenties.”  Wow. that could describe a few people everyone knows.  Be aware folks…no matter WHERE you are in public.  This Chandler locksmith says, keep your eyes and ears open. Avoid trouble and lock your doors, Chandler residents.

Scottsdale Man Guilty of Impersonating a Marine Veteran.

John W. Rodriguez, 31, was convicted by a jury on charges of forgery, fraudulent schemes and presentation of a false instrument for filing.  It was tipped to police by a ”real” former Marine who saw this guy, Rodriguez who was introduced as a decorated veteran at a special military function in Scottsdale.  So the true former marine noticed Rodriguez’s uniform was not complete and thought it was odd for someone his age to be wearing the Navy Cross. After researching Rodriguez, the man found he had never been in the military.  This locksmith says “you gotta be kidding me.” The DPS  found Rodriguez had pretended to be a decorated veteran at several functions and had listed himself as currently serving in the military on his driver’s license.  He was arrested a week later at Sky Harbor International Airport after returning from a trip.  What is it coming to ladies and gents?  This Scottsdale  locksmith thinks this guy Rodriguez, should do time and public service…uh that is TRUE public service like picking up litter off our highways for a long while…HOOAH!

Ahwatukee Gun Mishap

This Ahwatukee locksmith security consultant read about an Ahwatukee man in a condo unit, who had a loaded rifle in his closet and was packing for a trip. The rifle dropped on the floor and fired hitting the bed below in the next unit.  The bullet went right through the pillow.  Good thing the woman was away at the time.  Gosh, sleeping in can be dangerous!

This locksmithsays, please, if you are going to own a gun, be responsible.  Treat all firearms with respect and caution because idiot mistakes like this one can be deadly.  If you have a habit of being clumsy or forgetful…a gun safe is mandatory.
