Is Bigger Better?
When it comes to hiring a competent locksmith service company, Is Bigger Better? Should you judge the size of a lock shop by the expected professionalism you will receive?
If bigger is better, does that mean that a large “locksmith” company will dispatch to you a competent locksmith with a great skill-set to help you with your current situation and be able to professionally secure your business or home for the better?
Well, my answer is NO. A lock company that is BIGGER is not always BETTER.
What about a local locksmith company touting that they own a store-front and THAT makes them better . Claiming they have a lot of employees? Hmmm. Gotta pay for that store-front huh? Your rates are then, probably higher. So you say Mobile or not Mobile? That is the question?
Well, if you need a shop to walk in to, so that pesky key for the padlock you have will work properly, then YES. By all means, find a shop. Need a key? Find a shop. Hey, you won’t have to pay for a service call.
What about the 24-7 claim of service? I love the 24/7 guarantee or some claim 23/7. What does that mean?
I challenge all consumers out there to CALL the locksmiths that claim they are 24/7. Call them at 1am! See if you reach a locksmith. I’m not saying, you MIGHT get one, but chances are…the phone will ring on! I don’t know of ONE locksmith shop that is personnel occupied 24/7 for emergencies. So I guess that makes them MOBILE huh?
If you are like MOST customers who need a locksmith, you need a locksmith to arrive at your business, home or car. Typically the call is for an emergency or for requested work that needs to be completed ON SITE.
Did you call a nationally organized locksmith chain? See, these national locksmith chains hire the LEAST skilled. They need BIG margin to pay for their advertising.
They have huge-scale advertising campaigns and their phones ring for service, so they need fulfill those calls and they need BODIES to arrive to help the unsuspecting.
In Arizona, these “technicians” as they are usually referred, are usually highly un-skilled, un-trained and not locksmiths. It’s a part-time gig for them. Make a little money price-jacking customers. These guys think..”Hey, I can use a slim-jim! Hope I don’t ruin that wiring in the door panel…oh well if I do. I’m not accountable.” Uggh. What’s worse is… they can do some damage to ALL KINDS of locks that surely will end up costing you more as replacement and usually is a big inconvenience as well.
So what is it? What’s the trick to understanding what’s a good locksmith service company?
Is it the skill-set of the experienced, seasoned, professional local locksmith that comes to service your property?
Or maybe how well the owner of the company is connected with the best manufactures and distributors in the industry?
Maybe it’s the owner’s knowledge and skill-set, and the level of knowledge and skill they demand of their locksmiths?
Is the owner of the company a locksmith? Are they professional? Did your locksmith give you options for service? Yes. These are the pros who care. These locksmiths are a credit to their profession. I’d say, call one of these guys.
Sincerely,
Laura Cordovano, Owner, ASAP Lock & Security.
